A veteran of the 2001, 2008, and many more recent stock market crashes, I have gone through the school of hard knocks of what can happen in the jungle.

Fast forward to today, and you’ll find me managing a portfolio from a small home office, overlooking a garden and a small orchard. I’ve found my sweet spot at the intersection of financial savvy and practical self-reliance.

What I Do Now

  • Write about financial independence through the lens of self-sufficiency
  • Teach others how to build resilience in both their financial and physical worlds
  • Consult with individuals and groups on creating “hybrid wealth” strategies

My Philosophy

I believe true wealth isn’t just about money in the bank – it’s about having the skills, knowledge, and resources to thrive in any situation. Whether it’s a market downturn or a power outage, the same principles apply: diversification, risk management, and sustainable growth.

The Real Stuff

When I’m not writing or teaching, you’ll find me:

  • Experimenting with new preservation techniques for my garden’s surplus
  • Running scenarios on my custom-built financial modeling software
  • Teaching my kids how to identify edible plants (while explaining compound interest)
  • Failing spectacularly at sourdough bread (but getting better!)

My Latest Projects

  • Writing my upcoming book
  • Developing an online course on financial preparedness
  • Building a community tool-sharing program
